"I'm here with you. How can I not be happy?" It's the truth and he's not even bothered by the changes since he's come here. What bothers him is how tired Nanami tends to look, but he's been working on that with their weekends away. And he knows Nanami feels responsible for the kids, even Geto-san and Gojo-san and it's fine.
"I'm not training to go hunt things, I'm training so you don't worry about me." But if that's making him worry more, maybe it's time to look into other forms of training.
"If I took on a different form of training. One that didn't expose me to weapons, would that be something easier for you?"
Nanami often feels the same. It would be hypocritical to doubt him. "I want even more happiness in your life," he says, meaning it. "Happiness with me, and happiness... via other things as well. Whatever they may be."
That's what he's wanted for Haibara for a decade. A life.
He blinks. "You can train with weapons. That doesn't bother me," he says, "You've been training with Maki right? She's tough, but she won't seriously hurt you. It's whatever unknown fights we face, not her, that worries me."
"Hey, you need to stop doing that." Haibara brushes a kiss to his lips briefly before he keeps going. "Without you, I wouldn't be happy. Not really. I could be content, sure, but you're the reason I'm truly happy here, Kento. Your presence is what makes this home for me. Without you? I might not even be here, anyway." Because all he'd wanted was to be with Nanami.
"And whether I train with her or not, I feel like you'd be a lot more relaxed if I could fight from a distance." Which is something he can work on.
Nanami flushes slightly. Perhaps it's selfish of him to want Haibara to find happiness in other things or guilt for all he's experienced in the world Haibara could only watch. Not that Nanami was happy exactly. It's strange after talking with Geto about not revolving his whole life and existence in Folkmore around Gojo not to consider the same for Haibara. They aren't those two, though. "It's a hard habit to break," Nanami says. "I won't apologize for wanting you to be even happier. I'm not trying to make you happy without me. Seeing you do things you like... I like it."
A distance is usually safer, yes. "Having the flexibility to do either is good, for when the fox feels uncooperative." A pause. "But... yes."
"I'll see what I can about the distance issue. It might not be hard with how things work around here. That being said, if you want to see me to do what I like more, all you have to do is ask, Kento." His lips twitch into a grin, Haibara leaning in to kiss just below his ear.
Nanami leans his head back and groans. He walked right into that one. Haibara makes sure to tease him whenever his words sound silly or can be taken a certain way or— There's a lot of circumstances under which Haibara teases him.
"And I thought we were past the honeymoon stage," Nanami teases.
"Not even close." He leans in, brushes a kiss to Nanami's jaw, the corner of his mouth before kissing him properly, although it's just a kiss this time.
"We've got years of that ahead of us, I hope." If he's honest, the rest of their lives, but it'll have to end eventually, probably. "I never want to stop feeling the way I do about you now."
His ears twitch at the touch and he shifts in Nanami's lab, maybe a bit more deliberately than just as a reaction to his ears being touched. "I know." And that's what he wants as well. The rest is honestly just details, but as long as they're basically on the aame overall page?
They'll work it out.
He is quiet for a moment though before his lips twitch. "So how many times did you sleep with Gojo-san?"
They have definitely finished the serious portion of the conversation when Haibara gets like that. He strokes Haibara's ears again, soft and slow, in no rush or hurry. Sometimes it's just nice to—
Nanami coughs at the question. He's not embarrassed about sleeping with Gojo, nor does he think Haibara judges him for it. It's just... shocking and surprising and maybe those two words mean the same thing. It bears repeating. "Not that often," he says thoughtfully, "I wasn't keeping count. Maybe once or twice a year once I went back? On average."
They were friends first and foremost, as much as Gojo drove Nanami nuts. While Nanami gets as horny as the next man, he didn't need to act on it that much. Plenty of the time he took care of things himself. There's other matters besides sex.
Nanami stroking his ears is distracting and he makes a soft sound in response, shifting again his lap before he forces himself to focus. They can move to the couch in a moment, after all.
"And would you have told me that if I'd asked you a month ago?"
His hand pauses without thinking about it. It's a strange question. Yes, it's not something he would bring up in conversation on his own, but Haibara asked. So he answered.
"If you really wanted to know."
It's not a secret, not from Haibara. It's simply not something he usually talks about.
"What's the most embarrassing thing you've ever done, then?" Because while Nanami would tell him if he asked, maybe a different direction would be better for confirming his thoughts.
"About what?" Because he wants to know what Nanami considers most embarrassing. It's been years for him after all and it's not like he witnessed everything.
His mouth opens. Closes. Nanami looks away to gather his composure. He takes a few steady breathes. How did the conversation come to this?
The most embarrassing thing he has ever done? Not the most embarrassing situation he's been in. Plenty of people (Gojo) make situations embarrassing. "About six months after I returned to being a jujutsu sorcerer, I saw my former supervisor in public. I pretended not to know him, but he made that an increasingly obvious farce. It drew far too much attention because I couldn't simply leave. Pretending I didn't know him made it all the worse than him making any situation bad in the first place."
"No, but you wanted to know." Nanami squints at Haibara. "I chose to tell you."
Because he trusts Yu. Because as embarrassing as that scene was (and his former manager could make quite a scene), it's not nearly close to the short list of things he's not yet ready to discuss with Yu. Shibuya— that's something different. Not embarrassing. Simply, a lot. They should talk about it sometime, he knows that. He just wants more time together first before having to bring that in.
No, what's odd is when he tried to obfuscate his answer, and what came out changed. Choosing to tell Haibara things is different. Nanami considers what else, not Shibuya, he doesn't want Haibara to know. Doesn't want but isn't going to blow up this conversation into something else.
So he tries to say, I like when you're needy in bed. Not a lie, but a version of the truth he likes Haibara to know. A lie to the statement.
"I want you to beg more in bed," he says and goes scarlet.
He needs a couple moments to compose himself again. It's embarrassing to say it aloud, to have said it aloud. Haibara doesn't care, but Nanami can't help the reaction. He's not used to talking about such things at all. Figuring out what people like and doing that more, sure. Not this.
"Not if I answer," Nanami agrees. He considers it. "I hope that's only with you. It'll be problematic if that's all the time with everyone. There's matters I need to honor the privacy of."
Haibara won't ask about those things. He's not worried about that.
"It only started around the time my vision changed and I only noticed
because we're together so much and I know you so well. You can test it with
others though. Have you been overly honest with anyone else?"
"I've been more honest with Geto about some of the issues he's talking to me about but not overly honest. It seemed like he was ready to hear those points, when before they would've been heard as something else. They wouldn't have helped him," Nanami says slowly as he thinks about it. "I'm honest generally with people. I don't think it's been overly so. I will test it out however."
Because he needs to know before it causes a disaster.
He leans his head against Haibara's. "Well, at least this feels as substantial as your vision. I love the tattoo, but it didn't feel balanced."

"That's why I proposed," Nanami says, "I want you for the rest of my life. I know how I feel and that it'll never stop. Only grow."
He reaches up to brush one of Haibara's ears. "Though I'll admit I never imagined these in our lives."

His cheeks have already gone red. His ears too. Because it's, well, embarrassing. He'd rather not talk about it.
"Please, tell me what you're thinking. It can't be about... that."

Re: After meeting Megumi
Haibara just stares for a second before he laughs quietly. Not at Nanami but his reaction to his own words.
"The look on your face." He manages before he's leaning in to kiss Nanami again.
"We can definitely make that happen though." Not like he's going to mind.
"But that confirms what I've been noticing since I lost color away from you. I don't think you can hide things if I ask you directly."
