I don't know why, I never considered the possibility he might show up here. And he's not... he's older. He's spent four years watching me, Geto. [ Whatever any of them believe about the after life, that is that. Haibara knew things about his time after he left, things he couldn't know without... being there in some sense of the word. ]

He doesn't even have cursed energy anymore, but he's our heart. He brings a lot back together.

So you're worried about his safety? [He would do the same had it been Satoru who came back with no cursed energy.]

We don't really have many enemies here at least. [So Haibara isn't likely to be targeted because of that.]

I would worry about his safety were he as powerful as Gojo. It's surprising that he has no cursed energy, but we all gain new powers here. He's not completely defenseless. [ Nanami drinks his latte and focuses on the feelings he gets from Haibara. He's fine right now. ]

Yes, I appreciate that immensely.

"He was never completely defenseless, just not as powerful in jujutsu as we were." [There's no judgment in his tone, just fact.] You could see if that girl will train him. It'd probably be good for him.

Perhaps get him a similar pair of glasses too. Just in case. [ Nanami thinks about it briefly. ] He doesn't have a heavenly pact like Maki, but he can still train. He's always been so good at putting in the work.

If he can request powers here, you might have options to consider as well.

I know. I can talk that over with him, but in the end it's whatever he wants. I'll protect him regardless. [ He'll do whatever he has to for that. He's already thinking about powers that might prove useful for himself. Besides, if they wind up bad at eating dinner on a regular basis, he can cut back on the quantity of luxury ingredients. ]

He'd want you to not have to worry about him, Nanami. We all know that. [Because at the end of the day, the last thing any of them want to be is a liability for someone else.]

I know. [ Nanami knows that all too well. He doesn't want to be a burden on Haibara, especially when it comes to controlling his life. Haibara is so easily happy, but Nanami... thinks about things much more. Perhaps too much, but that's always been who he is. He doesn't need to dwell on that. ]

We'll see. I want him to get settled. There hasn't been a threat to him yet. There hasn't been a great threat to me yet.

I still feel like I'm settling in so that may be more of a process for him as well. [Not that he expects it will be. Haibara was more stable than he had been, after all. ]

You and I aren't nearly as good at settling in. Perhaps I was, but not now he's here. [ Nanami will return some order to his life in time. A routine. Habits. They're all in the air right now. ]

It's chaos. Good chaos but chaos.

It doesn't help we both favor agents of chaos as our main relationships, either. [Good chaos or not, it's still chaotic.]

[ That gets a small sigh but fond. Haibara is no Gojo. Nanami doubts he could handle sharing a living space with Gojo, much less the higher level of chaos he must bring to Geto's life. Yet Haibara is his own sort of chaotic. Always has been, in a kind generous way. ]

I am not sure what that says about us, but Haibara is Haibara. I wouldn't choose anyone over him.

I think it says more about me than you. I'm the one who fell for a cyclone in human form. [It's dry but no less true, Geto letting his head fall back against the couch.]

You two are good together though. Haibara's always been a good influence on you.

[ Nanami smiles slightly, amused. Geto's right, however, in his description of Gojo. He's on a whole different level when it comes to chaos. ]

I'd enjoy hearing it in your own words. Why you love Gojo.

[ That relationship, even when they're apart, shapes so much in the course of the world. It makes something private also something public. ]

Haibara's a good influence on everyone.

That's a question I'm not sure how to answer because it's not like I planned it. [Definitely not. And until he'd thought Satoru had died, he'd never quite realized exactly where he stood. But the idea of losing him had changed everything.]

He's a force of nature and things are simpler here. [To fall into regular routines, although he's still finding his own place.] But he still needs something to keep him busy most of the time.

People don't plan to fall in love, but it's good to understand what you love about someone.

[ Every year of students are close, and Nanami has no rock to throw at Geto. He fell for his classmate too. Fell hard and didn't see it coming until it happened. He's had years to reflect on it, something Geto hasn't. Nanami also doubts Gojo and Geto spent much time reflecting on it after... well, after. ]

He doesn't know how to be still. Almost ever. Sleep is a rare exception. Fortunately, there's many people to socialize with here.

I know. [He knows it too well, especially the sleep thing.] And he's always going after new people, trying to do everything when he doesn't need to.

He's used to having to do everything. He's had those expectations placed on his shoulders, and it's hard to let go of them. [ Nanami sips his latte and sighs, thinking of Gojo over the years, the ones this Gojo hasn't lived yet. ]

Slowing down, not doing everything himself... it'll take him some time to learn how to do that.

I know. [And he does get it, even if he's trying to work his way around the situation.]

[ Nanami looks at Geto. ] That has to be hard on you.

Can't change who he is. [Even if he's not a fan of the social side of things.]

No, trying to change people is an exercise in futility.

What are you doing to manage? [ Nanami gives Geto an intense serious look. One that says he's not letting Geto slide by on this matter. It's for Geto's sake. ]

Ignoring it. I can't do anything else about it so it seems best to just ignore it as much as possible and focus on what really matters.

Ignoring and distracting yourself work for a while. In the end, you need to process it. Otherwise, it will become a problem. [ Nanami raises an eyebrow. Trust him on this, Geto. ]
